Professional hygiene and periodontology

Play icon

It is always easier and cheaper to prevent caries and other oral diseases than treating its consequences later. The same applies for gum treatment. Our goal is to improve the culture of oral hygiene, and to show patients that prevention is the key to a healthy and whiter smile.

FAQ

Can pregnant women get a professional oral hygiene?

Certainly, it is possible. Obviously, the doctor has some restrictions on manipulations for pregnant women in the first and last trimester of pregnancy. However, at a preliminary consultation, you will receive a clear plan of what can and cannot be done.

Is professional hygiene different for patients with braces?

Wearing braces makes oral hygiene somewhat difficult. To avoid gum inflammation, cavities, and other oral diseases, patients with braces are recommended professional hygiene once every 3 months.

I have implants. Can I have professional hygiene?

For quality cleaning of implants it is necessary to visit a periodontist regularly. Patients who have implants are recommended to have professional hygiene once every 3 months. Professional cleaning of implants is being done with the help of special nozzles and titanium curettes, which are used to remove dental plaque in hard-to-reach areas. Lack of hygiene can lead to the development of peri-implantitis (inflammation of the tissues around the implant).

How often should professional hygiene be done?

The number of visits for professional hygiene is selected by a periodontist. We recommend professional oral hygiene once every 6 months. In combination with daily care, this is usually enough.

Do you treat gum disease?

Yes, we treat gum disease. A periodontist is a physician who specializes in treating gum disease and the structures that support the tooth. Our periodontists are full members of the “Ukrainian Academy of Periodontology” therefore, they use only modern treatment protocols.

What does periodontal treatment include?

Treatment includes diagnosis (PSR-test), X-rays, and the completion of a periodontal chart. It consists of deep removal of dental plaques (scaling and smoothing root surfaces), achieved results evaluation (approximately 6-8 weeks after deep cleaning) and determination of the need for further action. Surgery may be required in some situations, if the deep pockets will be revealed. Periodonta

l maintenance therapy – check-ups and professional hygiene every 6 months (or more frequently) is necessary after the completion of treatment.

Is teeth whitening safe?

We use medical whitening without damaging the teeth, namely the “Fläsh” technology, which has a pulse mode for sensitive teeth, as well as a unique whitening gel composition that does not cause any tooth sensitivity after whitening. Teeth whitening is safe and painless when it is done under the supervision of a periodontist, who prepares your teeth and gums for the procedure beforehand and eliminates possible contraindications.

What is the duration of the whitening procedure?

The procedure takes an average of two hours. Preliminary consultation and examination by a doctor is required. The whitening procedure is preceded by professional oral hygiene.

Are there any painful feelings during the whiting procedure?

The procedure is generally painless. At the end of the whitening procedure, a special reminalizing solution and gum gel are applied, which ensures patient comfort after teeth whitening.

How long does the whitening effect last?

It all depends on the teeth condition, the natural color of the tooth and adherence to a “white diet” after the whitening procedure. The color intensity usually does not change for 6 months. In addition, the effect of the procedure lasts up to 1 year.

What are the contraindications and nuances of the whitening procedure?

The list of contraindications for the whitening procedure is not very long. In general, pregnant women, patients with implants, frontal restorations and periodontal status should wait with this procedure. At the first appointment, the doctor will definitely conduct a consultation and suggest solutions to your problem.
